The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership, a category that has recognized 21 outstanding individuals and organizations driving change across Asia.
RMAF Chairperson Edgar O. Chua emphasized the importance of recognizing young changemakers, stating, “The future is shaped by those who dare to act today. Across Asia, young leaders are stepping forward and making a difference. The Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership was created to shine a light on young changemakers who are leading the way in solving Asia’s most pressing issues. For the past 25 years, these Ramon Magsaysay Awardees for Emergent Leadership have pushed boundaries, created solutions, and empowered communities. Their leadership demonstrates that change is possible at any age.”
Established 2000 with a grant from the Ford Foundation, the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership was first presented in 2001. This category recognizes young transformative individuals and organizations working in Asia who have taken on critical challenges in their communities, proving that leadership is not defined by age but by vision, courage, and action—each of whom has made lasting impact.
“As we mark this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to celebrating and amplifying the voices of young leaders,” says RMAF President Susanna B. Afan. “The stories of our Ramon Magsaysay Awardees for Emergent Leadership highlight what happens when young people challenge limitations and take decisive action. We hope their journeys will inspire many more to shape a better future for Asia,” she adds.
The celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership is not just a reflection of the past—it is a call to the future. The next generation of leaders is already making their mark, proving that courage, vision, and action can break barriers and shape a better Asia for all.
The announcement of the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees is scheduled for August 31, 2025. The recipients will formally receive their certificates and medallions during the 67th Ramon Magsaysay Awards Presentation Ceremonies, which will take place on November 7, 2025 in Manila, Philippines.
